Latest information for voyage applicants.

 

Update (1) as at 1st June 2006.

 

Please note the following important arrangements.

 

Friday 23rd June.  Applications for the voyage close at 12:00 noon.  Soon after this,

arrangements for the selection-interviews will be sent to all applicants by e-mail.  Interviews

will be held on two days – the first for Turkish-Cypriots and the second for Greek-Cypriots.

 

Saturday 24th June.  Selection interviews at Genclik Merkezi, Nicosia.  Detailed timetable

to be decided, when the final number of T-C applicants is known.

 

Saturday 1st July.  Selection interviews at the Goethe Centre, Nicosia.  Detailed timetable

to be decided, when the final number of G-C applicants is known.

 

Saturday 8th July.  Two compulsory meetings for the 12 selected voyage-crew:

     Part one:  meeting with representatives of NGOs to agree the arrangements for each

person’s week of voluntary work. 

    Part two: pre-voyage Reception for crew and parents, at which films of the ship will be

shown, travel arrangements for joining the ship will be announced and questions

answered.

 

Travel.

All crew will be escorted from Cyprus to join the ship, flying via London to Gibraltar as a group

and returning from Mahon (Minorca) via London at the end of the voyage. Flights have been

pre-booked as follows:

       Depart from Larnaca at 17:45 on Wednesday 2/8/06;

       Return to Larnaca at 16:10 on Monday 14/8/06.

 

 

What to take with you; what you will do on board the ship.

The twelve selected crew will stand watches throughout the 24 hours and take their turn at steering,

handling sails, cleaning the ship, etc.  At the meeting on 8th July, more background information

will be available.

Recent web-access problems.

Some users have recently been experiencing problems accessing this web site.  This is part

of a wider Internet problem (not our fault) and we are told that normal access will soon be restored.

By the way, all people who have sent us applications should always receive an acknowledgement

from us by e-mail within two days of submitting your application.

 

Selection interviews.

T-C applicants will soon be informed by Hasim Kiracioglu of arrangements for interview on Saturday

24th June.  G-C applicants will hear from Simon Lavington by Monday 26th June of arrangements for

interviews on Saturday 1st July.  Please reply to our e-mails promptly.

 

Internationally-valid passports.

All applicants must have internationally-valid passports, for example Republic of Cyprus

passports.  UK Transit Visas will also be necessary for T-C voyage-crew.  We will help you

get these visas.

 

 

Third update:  5th July 2006.

 

Passports.

UK Transit Visas are not necessary for holders of Republic of Cyprus passports.  Make sure

your passport is up-to-date!

 

Pre-voyage meetings on Saturday 8th July in Nicosia.

Part 1, the NGO Presentations, will begin at 4.00pm.  All voyage-crew must attend.

Part 2, the Briefing and Reception for crew and parents, will start at 6.00pm.  We will show

films of the ship and describe life on board.  We will help you to fill in the following Forms:

        1. Tall Ships Booking Form;
        2.  Insurance application Form;
        3. 'Permission to be photographed' Form.

We will also explain how to pay your 15% contribution to the cost of your voyage and will give

some advice about ways of raising money.
